Caviar? In skincare?! Most people must think that it’s a little bit over the top to include Caviar in their skincare. However, it’s been included in skincare products that everyone can get their hands on and proven to be very effective. So not only is it a delicacy but also a massively helpful ingredient to put into your skincare routine. "Caviar is expensive to eat, and expensive to have in your skincare, but there is some data showing that caviar extracts can help slow skin aging," says Manhattan dermatologist Joshua Zeichner.

Caviar extract contains antioxidant properties to protect skin against dangerous UVA and UVB rays,” explains dermatologist Michelle Henry M.D. “This helps to prevent against collagen and elastin breakdown.” As we know now, the sun is the biggest ager for our skin and is impossible to avoid. However, using sunscreen and antioxidants such as Caviar Extract can be very helpful in preventing the negative issues associated with it. In the case of antioxidants, they work towards protecting your skin from looking dull and tired. Some of this might be caused by Oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is the prolonged exposure to unstable atoms in our environment that steal electrons from our skin. Which in turn means that our skin’s natural protective barriers are less effective and we find that collagen and elastin can be lost. As a result, protecting your skin with antioxidants can be very helpful in restoring a glowing and healthy complexion.

In addition to this, Caviar contains components that are difficult to find in any other skincare ingredient such as Omega 3 and Omega 6. These are essential fatty acids that we generally need for our bodies to function. They support the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune and nervous systems by helping to manufacture and repair cell membranes.

Omega 3 has been found to have a stabilising effect on the body, especially when we are under stress. Levels of cortisol produced by the body have been found to have dropped after eating something rich in Omega 3. Therefore when applied topically, it can be very helpful in regulating sebum production. Sebum production can be raised if we are going through stressful periods and therefore increase the level of cortisol in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids make up an important part of every skin cell in the body and are at the heart of numerous cellular functions. In particular, these fatty acids are great at fighting inflammation,” Dr. Chalmers shares. “In addition, they provide a nourishing lipid barrier for the skin.” When applied topically, Omega 3 can leave your skin feeling nourished and soft. As a key component of Caviar extract, these effects can also be found when it is used.
